Weather, Tides and Surf
It seems that no one really gets the whole forecasting thing bang on. The best bet is to check out a bunch of different resources and make up your own mind as to what might be happening. Here's a bunch of sites that we find useful:
www.windfinder.com - A great weather forecasting tool
www.windsurf.co.nz - An essential site for live weather info around NZ
www.metvuw.com - Awesome site! It provides forcasting maps for wind and rain every 6 hours for up to a week. A bit more technical than some of the other forecasting tools, but you get a much better understanding of why the forecasts are the way they are.
www.tvnz.co.nz weather - TVNZ provides a very good 5 day summary of the Metservice marine and local forecasts, plus tide info for all main NZ cities and regions.
www.metservice.co.nz - The official weather forecasters of NZ. On the whole, Metservice tends to chronically over-estimate the wind strength. Don't fool yourself into getting all excited by the Metservice report. Check a few other weather forecast sites to get some balanced info.
www.surf2surf.co.nz - Full surf guides, swell forecasting and webcams
www.surf.co.nz - Another excellent surf info website. Swell forecasting and webcams.
www.niwa.co.nz - Tide Forecasting tool for the whole of NZ.
